About
Karine Léger draws inspiration from the interplay of lines and forms, with each piece evolving from the memory of a place, shaped by repetition, mark-making, and negative space. Through this journey, sketches and collages transform into paintings or wooden structures, revealing the organic progression of the artist’s vision. Her process involves deconstruction as a means to achieve introspective reconstruction. From paper or digital cut-outs, her compositions are born out of a collaging process.
Léger’s works have long been prized by collectors for their symbolic depictions of harmony, tranquility, and balance. Superimposed colorful layers of images and transparent acrylics create geometric shapes that recall elements of nature. These compositions of shapes, which lean on or sometimes overlap each other, imply an anthropomorphic relationship that can convey both vulnerability and kinship. While Leger’s works may appear minimalist at first glance, the accumulation of material and narrative within each canvas creates a richness and complexity.
Among Léger’s newest body of work, we also see the artist freeing her signature forms from their flat canvas environment into wall sculptures comprised of shaped and painted wood.
