Elwood Howell: 'From the flat, distinct areas of color in color field painting, Howell's work merges into a three-dimensional reference to landscape. With his signature high horizon line, he captures the diffused light and mist with a quiet and serene effect. His paintings consist of dripped and flung color under the haze and gauze of a transparent wash of acrylic on canvas. They are mood paintings of an all-over color field with an exquisite sensibility for muted hues. Ethereal yet organic, his paintings convey a sense of spirituality and meditation.'
